KORTMIX004: tomlaan
KORTMIX004: tomlaan by www.thekort.com
Tomlaan, a young producer from the Netherlands, offers a hefty 37 minutes of original material for the latest Kort mix. Borrowing heavily from the introverted soundscapes of early Warp records, Tomlaan weaves decrepit melodies through bristling, neck-snapping beats, each track an exercise in minimalism that lets swung rhythms and lush chords get just the right amount of breathing room. The mixtape flows elegantly, beginning with ambient Boards of Canadian stylings and masterfully swelling into all-out industrial brain-mushers with smooth melodies tying the whole piece together.
There’s something to be said for producers who can tell a story using the only original material in a mix - and we won’t steal tomlaan’s thunder by giving that away. Perfect for a Friday night in, or that last subway home…do not sleep. These dude has sounds to spare.

MIXTAPE MONDAYS! PART TWO w/Tourist’s mix for This Is Fake DIY, the Hyphae III Comp, Prefuse 73’s live set from the American Museum of Natural History (it’s amazing), plus StewRat’s mix for Marinate Media…
So many dope mixtapes have dropped recently, not to mention I just premiered the mixtape for Pink Priest and Cough Cool’s new project Scissoring, so of course today is going to be extra special.
Every mix included today is just spot on with solid electronic, underground hip hop, rap, Bass, and then some jamz from start to finish. A wonderfully curated mixtape is worth it’s weight in gold to me. So instead of talking about them, I have included a stream and tracklist for you to discover the goods on your own. Enjoy!

Mux Mool - Planet High School (Ghostly International)
Mux Mool returns since 2010 eclectic ‘Skulltaste’ again appearing on Ghostly with a slightly less hyperactive album of his highly imaginative hip-hop driven electronic excursions. Paced over 10 tracks, from funkin’ IDM to broken hiphop delirium with videogame synths still dipping in, an accomplished album.
